Debora Iyall: Blog

This song never had it's own freestanding third verse. The third verse was as Herman of Herman's Hermits sang, "same as the first." We are working on recording a new version of it these next few weekends so I had to try to rectify that.

A Girl in Trouble (is a temporary thing) Iyall/Woods/Zincavage

She's got a face that shows that she knows she's heard every line
Tenderly she talks on the phone
There's a way to walk that says, "Stay away"

Tears will be saved 'til they're better spent
There's not time for her to be afraid, so instead
She takes care os business keeps a cool head

A Girl in Trouble is a temporary thing, temporary temporary, temporary, temporary
A Girl in Trouble is a temporary thing, temporary temporary, temporary, [...]

Praise poem

Posted on May 13, 2011 with 1 comment
This was written last night in a workshop by Glenis Redmond. We were prompted to write a poem of praise about the way we walk in the world, to include color, our heritage and nature. I had been thinking of how I walk in this world as a teacher.

Debora Iyall Praise Poem for 2011

I am traveling from island to island in a wooden boat
A childless midwife eyes glinting obsidian sharp
Rowing across riffles and currents that have carried others out to sea

I am cinnamon skinned - lingering at a pail of corn mush
Scraping at the bottom for a savory last mouthful
Before I trundle off in my regalia of
Calm, persistent liberation

Does my brown sugar after-taste keep you satisfied?
Do you paddle on
Nourished by my seal-eyed attention to your
Imminent arrival?
